The History

Framed by towering Georgia pines and marshes this romantic Bed and Breakfast overlooks Horse Pen Creek and the Back River.

The main living quarters on the ground floor are made up of two army barracks, which were moved from historic Fort Screven in the 1940’s. George McDonald, an original girl scout who served under Juliette Gordon Low, purchased the cottage in the1970’s.  George was a spirited woman, a retired teacher who was very community focused.  She was instrumental in getting Tybee’s named changed back from “Savannah Beach” to “Tybee”, as well as being a primary leader in initiating the restoration of the Tybee Lighthouse.   George added the second floor  (the bed & breakfast suite) for her sister, Caroline.  George and Caroline enjoyed living in their marsh cottage until the late 1990’s.

The current owner, your hostess, Shirley, hopes to provide a wonderful experience for travelers who appreciate helpfulness but also value their privacy."
